AEP Ohio is committed to the communities we serve. Earlier this year, 16 team members volunteered on a Habitat for Humanity of Southeast Ohio project to help bring a family into homeownership.

“Our group was so excited to help. They were ready to roll up their sleeves and help with siding, painting, flooring or whatever was needed,” said Brandy M., business services account manager in Lancaster. “Best of all, no experience necessary!”

Habitat for Humanity of Southeast Ohio is a non-profit serving eight counties: Athens, Fairfield, Hocking, Perry, Meigs, Morgan, Noble and Muskingum. It relies on volunteers to fulfill its mission of helping low-income families realize their dreams of homeownership.

The homes Habitat provides are built almost entirely by volunteers, both skilled and unskilled. All equipment and safety gear is provided.

Volunteers not only dedicated nearly a full workday and their elbow grease, but they also learned valuable skills, met new people and most importantly, had the opportunity to change the lives of local families forever. This particular home will be going to a single mother of two children in Logan — something the family has never had before — and they will be able to move in by the end of the month.

“It makes me feel honored to have been part of building a ‘forever home’ for this family,” said Brandy.

Customer and External Affairs Manager Melissa C. said employees are engaged not only in volunteer work but also in philanthropic giving.

“Recently, we made a $5,000 donation to support Habitat for Humanity,” said Melissa. “It showcases our commitment to the communities we serve.”
