AEP Ohio is dedicated to providing reliable and safe electric service. Some factors are beyond our control. Vehicle accidents and storms are some of the primary causes of power outages. When that happens, we want you to be prepared.
Where to Find Outage Information
We provide updates about power restoration progress on our website AEPOhio.com, and follow AEP Ohio on Facebook and X. Sign up for text and email updates at AEPOhio.com/Alerts or view our Outage Map to learn more about where outages are occurring.
Outage Checklist
- Check Circuit Breakers or Fuses: Determine if your service outage may be the result of a household issue.
- Call an Electrician: If you have standing water near electrical wiring or appliances, stay away from the water!
- Turn Off Lights and Appliances: If you experience an outage, turn off all lights and appliances – including heating and air conditioning systems. This helps prevent circuits from being overloaded as power is restored. Make sure nothing is left cooking on the stove.
What to do During a Power Outage
- Avoid Downed Lines: Stay as far away as possible from all downed lines and anything they may be touching. If you see a downed line, call 911 and AEP Ohio to make the area safe.
- Be Extremely Cautious: Investigate your surroundings before trying to clean up any debris, especially after a storm. Tree limbs, leaves and other objects moved by the wind can also hide downed wires.
- Never Burn Charcoal Indoors: It releases poisonous carbon monoxide.
